Neon signs cast fractured streaks of pink and electric blue across a shallow puddle beneath an elevated railway in Cologne. Silhouetted commuters stride across the wet asphalt, their forms distorted by the rippling water surface. The dry season leaves the air clear despite the recent rain, allowing the deep evening blue to dominate the sky above the steel tracks. Overhead concrete beams create a geometric cage of shadows that falls across the street. A tilted perspective tilts the horizon, aligning the vertical lines of streetlamps with the diagonal reflection in the water. The reflection shows the exact moment a figure steps forward, their shadow stretching long against the glistening, oily sheen of the street.
