Cirrus Uncinus Clouds Over Lanzhou Golden Hour

by Ivy Cooper

Soft orange light from the low sun washes over a pale, hazy sky near Lanzhou. Thin, hook-shaped cirrus uncinus clouds stretch horizontally across the upper third of the view, their white filaments glowing against the deepening blue. A gentle fog softens the distant horizon, blurring the line between earth and air. The light catches the delicate texture of the ice crystals, making the streaks appear almost translucent. Below, the land remains in shadow, at the base of the bright, airy forms above. The clouds curve gently downward at their tips, creating a rhythmic pattern that moves across the frame. A faint shadow of a distant ridge breaks the smooth gradient of the fog at the very bottom edge.
