Rainy Street Corner Traffic Light Reflection Kingston in outside a fluorescent convenience store in Kingston

Rainy Street Corner Traffic Light Reflection Kingston

by Faith McCall

Silver drizzle coats the asphalt outside a convenience store, turning the street corner into a shimmering mirror. A shallow puddle shows the inverted glow of a traffic signal, its red and green lenses distorted by ripples in the water. The store's fluorescent signage bleeds a cool, artificial blue onto the wet pavement, against the natural gray of the overcast sky. Concrete curbs frame the water, their edges softened by the constant, fine rain. A metal pole anchors the signal, its surface darkened by moisture, standing against the backdrop of the urban block. The reflection fractures slightly where a small stone breaks the surface tension, scattering the light into fragmented shards of color along the curb.
