Flat noon glare washes over the interior of a rehearsal space in Ouro Preto, illuminating forty-foot organ pipes rising from the choir loft. Reflected light bounces off nearby water surfaces, casting a cool, shimmering sheen across the brass and wood surfaces. Stage haze hangs suspended in the air, catching the harsh overhead illumination and revealing the texture of the metal flues. The pipes dominate the vertical space, their polished surfaces against the aged stone walls of the historic venue. Dust motes drift slowly through the thick haze, settling on the intricate casework. One brass pipe reflects the distorted image of the water source, anchoring the scene in its specific, sunlit reality.
