Blue Hour Cathedral Organ Pipes Chelyabinsk Rehearsal

by Lee Griffin

Cool blue twilight washes the interior of a Chelyabinsk rehearsal space, illuminating massive organ pipes that climb forty feet toward the high ceiling. The metallic surfaces reflect the soft, diffused light of the monsoon evening, their silver and brass tones muted by the humid air. Dust motes hang suspended in the gloom, visible only where the fading natural light cuts through the shadows. The pipes dominate the left third of the view, standing in rigid vertical rows against a backdrop of dark, damp stone walls. Below, the wooden choir loft floor shows signs of moisture, with a sheen of water reflecting the dim glow. A heavy velvet curtain hangs partially drawn at the far right edge, its fabric dark and heavy with the weight of the season.
