Carver Working in Luxor

Thick Nile mist rests on the limestone pillars of the Karnak Temple complex, softening the harsh geometry of the hypostyle hall into a pale, monochromatic wash. In the foreground, an elderly stone carver sits cross-legged on a woven mat, his hands steady as he guides a metal chisel against a block of sandstone, sending fine dust into the damp air. He wears a faded straw hat pulled low to shield his eyes from the diffused gray light. Behind him, the massive columns rise into the fog, their hieroglyphs barely visible, showing ancient continuity.
