Vietnamese Communal House Pillars in Taichung Atrium

First light of dawn spills through the high vaulted ceiling of a Taichung atrium, skimming across the glossy surfaces of lacquered Vietnamese pillars. Deep crimson and obsidian wood grain gleams under the low, angled glow, highlighting the intricate joinery and curved capitals. Thick, low-hanging autumn clouds blur the upper windows, diffusing the sky into a soft gray backdrop that contrasts sharply with the dark, polished timber. The polished floor reflects the pillars perfectly, creating a symmetrical mirrored composition where the ceiling meets its reflection. One beam of pale morning light cuts across the wet-look lacquer, tracing the vertical lines of the structure against the cool, misty air of the space.
