Incense Smoke in Nanning Altar in at the foot of a stone altar in Nanning

Incense Smoke in Nanning Altar

by Francis Higgins

Violet and teal neon reflections wash the damp stone floor of a temple in Nanning during the monsoon season. Wisps of white smoke rise from burning incense sticks placed at the foot of a weathered altar, their trails drifting upward into the predawn darkness. The stone surfaces gleam with a thin layer of moisture, contrasting against the dry ash accumulated around the burner. Soft neon light bounces off the wet tiles, creating elongated streaks of color that mimic the smoke's movement. The composition follows the rule of thirds, placing the altar's base on the left vertical line while the smoke trails occupy the right two-thirds of the frame. one drop of condensation hangs from the altar's edge, catching the artificial glow.
