Brushing Coat in Fez

A narrow alley in Fez glows under the harsh sodium spill of a streetlamp, illuminating a zellige-tiled wall where a man in a white djellaba pauses to brush lint from his shoulder with a stiff-bristled coat brush. His hand, blurred by motion, catches the edge of a polished brass lantern hanging nearby, leaving a faint, smudged fingerprint on the curved metal surface that reflects the chaotic neon signs of a nearby shop. Behind him, a stray dog sits patiently on the damp cobblestones, watching a child chase a hoop past a stack of woven peg baskets.
