Brass Fixture in Casablanca

Under the flat, shadowless glare of Casablanca noon, a small repair stall rests on the side of a white-washed stucco building near the old medina. A local craftsman sits on a low wooden stool, his hands steady as he works on a brass fixture, surrounded by the scattered tools of his trade. A red lacquered wooden box sits open on a nearby table, its vibrant color stark against the dusty, sun-bleached surroundings. A simple doormat, worn thin by countless footsteps, lies at the entrance, while a few overripe dates rest on a plastic tray nearby, their skins wrinkled in the heat.
