The beam illuminates a chaotic cluster of daily life: a red plastic laundry basket sits tipped over near the counter, spilling a few dark berries that have rolled onto the dusty ground, likely from a customer’s grocery bag. Beside it, a heavy steel boot scraper holds the grit of the sidewalk, its metal surface pitted with rust on the latch, against the clean, sterile white of the stacked plates waiting to be washed in the back.
