Golden hour light slants through the open doorway of a Harlem bodega, illuminating a narrow service corridor where a green plastic tool caddy rests on a scarred wooden workbench. Inside the caddy, a pair of wire cutters and a screwdriver lie amidst loose change and crumpled receipts, their metal handles catching the warm, low-angle sun. Behind the bench, a white pegboard hangs with a few rusted hooks and a faded inventory chart, while soap streaks mark the lower half of the adjacent tile wall, evidence of hurried cleaning.
