A fire escape casts long, sharp shadows across the wet pavement, where a bodega owner in a yellow rain slicker leans out to adjust a hanging display of fresh produce. The damp air catches the neon glow of a flickering 'Open' sign, reflecting in puddles that mirror the chrome of a passing taxi. Beside the door, a stack of cardboard boxes sits slightly askew, one torn open to reveal green string beans and a small seed tray, remnants of last night's delivery.
