Boab Tree in Jamaican Garden with Giant Teacup
by Andy Cuevas
Copper-toned light washes over terraced garden plots where a massive, gnarled boab tree stands with a swollen, pale trunk. The wet season air hangs heavy, visible as a soft haze around the leaves just beginning to dry after a storm. Beside the ancient bark, a teacup the size of a swimming pool rests on the soil, its white porcelain gleaming under the warm firelight that mimics the fading dusk. Steam rises from the rim in visible, curling wisps that catch the golden glow. Lush green foliage frames the impossible vessel, showing the scale difference between the tree's rough texture and the smooth, oversized ceramic. Shadows stretch long and soft across the terraced earth, at the base of the surreal object in the realistic garden setting. one drop of water rests on the rim of the giant cup, reflecting the copper sky.
