Blue Dawn Shrine with Flowers in Gwangju in beside a prayer wheel corridor in Gwangju

Blue Dawn Shrine with Flowers in Gwangju

by Logan Murillo

A narrow stone alcove embedded in a corridor wall holds a ceramic bowl filled with fresh white lilies and chrysanthemums. Cool blue morning light floods the space from the left, illuminating water droplets on the petals while leaving the right side in deep shadow. A brass wall sconce mounted nearby casts a faint warm glow against the rough plaster, against the cool tones. Above the flowers, a woven tapestry hangs slightly askew, its frayed edges catching the soft diffused illumination. A distinct floorboard seam runs along the ground, leading toward the recessed shrine, and a faint reflection of the white blooms shimmers on the polished stone sill.
