Blood Orange Slice with Miniature Buildings
by Anna Hill
Morning light filtered through sheer curtains illuminates a cross-section of blood orange flesh, its deep crimson segments glowing against a backdrop of coarse woven linen fibers. The fruit's juice glistens on polished surfaces, catching small highlights that dance across the textured weave. Along the curved edges of the frame, a row of tiny buildings the size of shoeboxes lines the perimeter, their miniature windows reflecting the same soft, diffused light. The monsoon season is evident in the damp, heavy quality of the air suggested by the saturated colors and the way the light softens against the organic curves of the citrus. Each architectural detail of the miniature structures remains sharply legible, creating a surreal border that frames the natural subject without obscuring the intricate, juicy interior of the orange slice.
