Steel-blue ambient light washes over a volcanic black sand beach where dark grains contrast against the silhouettes of palm trees. Terraced garden plots rise gently behind the shoreline, their earthy ridges stepping upward into the low-hanging clouds that blanket the sky. Late spring greenery rests on the slopes, offering the only splash of color against the monochrome sand and darkening horizon. City lights begin to glow in the distance, small points of warmth piercing the vast solitude. The negative space surrounding the subject emphasizes the scale of the landscape, while the rough texture of the volcanic sand meets the smooth, waxy leaves of the palms at the water's edge.
