Barrel Cactus Yellow Flowers Fern Forest Guatemala

Bright late afternoon light falls across a stout barrel cactus resting on a damp, fern-lined forest floor near Guatemala City. The cactus displays a vibrant crown of yellow flowers that contrast against the deep greens of the surrounding foliage. Rain-soaked fronds cluster tightly around the base, their surfaces glistening with fresh water droplets left by a clearing storm. The soil appears dark and rich, holding moisture from the recent rainy season downpour. Sunlight falls through the canopy above, creating dappled highlights on the waxy green skin of the cactus and the serrated edges of the nearby ferns. A water droplet rests on the tip of a lower frond, refracting the bright sky. The edge of a fern leaf touches the rough, ribbed surface of the cactus spine.
