Astronomer Secures Observatory Latch on Windy Douala Platform

Bright midday sun illuminates a metal ladder bolted to a weathered concrete platform in Douala. A figure in light protective gear stands on the third rung, reaching up to engage a heavy steel latch on a cylindrical observatory shutter. The wet season air hangs heavy, evidenced by the glistening sheen of moisture on the equipment surfaces and the dark, saturated color of the rusted metal beneath the paint. Strong salt wind ripples the loose fabric of the observer's shirt, pushing the material tight against their back.
