Amber Spiral Staircase in Hull Skylight in inside a skylit passageway in Kingston upon Hull

Amber Spiral Staircase in Hull Skylight

by Julian Bond

Rich amber light floods the interior passageway, pouring through a high skylight to illuminate the sweeping curve of a stone staircase. The spiral descends in tight concentric rings, its worn steps catching the low golden hour glow while deep shadows pool in the recessed corners. Rain streaks the glass above, blurring the sky into a soft gray wash that contrasts with the warm tones below. The Dutch angle tilt slants the vertical walls, creating a dynamic sense of depth as the railing curves inward. Wet condensation beads along the lower stone surfaces, hinting at the rainy season outside. at the edge is the sharp, dark edge of a shadow cast by the balustrade against the damp floor.
