Tidal Island Causeway Dune Wadis Al Muharraq

by Nicholas Khan

Cold silver dawn light floods the arid landscape near Al-Muharraq, revealing a narrow sand causeway connecting a small tidal island to the mainland. Dry wadis cut through the dune fields like pale scars in the early winter earth, their channels empty and exposed by the receding tide. The terrain shifts from rough, textured dunes to the smooth, wetted sand of the causeway, creating distinct layers of depth that recede into the hazy distance. After a storm, the sky remains a soft, pale gradient above the muted browns and greys of the ground. Fine grains of sand scatter across the lower ridges, while the straight lines of the causeway cut sharply against the organic curves of the dunes, ending in a precise shadow cast by the low sun angle.
