Abandoned Art Deco Cinema in Karaganda Shrine

Faded cream stucco curves of an Art Deco facade dominate the frame, its geometric plaster ornaments crumbling and detaching in mid-fall against a backdrop of early spring gloom. The structure sits within a shrine lined with rows of glowing lanterns that cast a warm, amber wash over the decaying masonry. Dramatic, heavy clouds press low in the sky as the city lights of Karaganda begin to flicker on in the distance, creating a soft, diffused glow. Broken pieces of ornamental molding hang precariously from the cornice, suspended by gravity alone. The lanterns reflect faintly on the wet, dark pavement below, where a single fallen shard rests near the curb.
