Cool evening air settles over a riverside landing in Quezon City as the last blue light of dusk fades into deep shadow. A woman sits on a low stool, her silhouette defined by a sharp rim of fading sky light along her shoulders and the curve of the stone metate before her. She moves a heavy stone mano back and forth across the rough surface, grinding dried corn kernels into a fine meal. The scene is quiet, dominated by the dark tones of wet stone and the cool, gray-blue wash of the clearing storm sky. Her hands, steady and rhythmic, press against the warm, porous texture of the grinding stone. Beside her, the river reflects the dimming sky, while the negative space around her emphasizes the solitude of the task.
