Winter Twilight Double Play Near Tijuana
Cool blue twilight washes the dry, dormant grass of the open field near Tijuana. A baseball shortstop leaps mid-air, his body angled sharply toward second base. He wears a dark uniform with visible dirt stains on the knees. His right arm extends forward, releasing the white baseball against the deepening indigo sky. The ball hangs suspended in the air, a small white blur against the fading light. Behind him, distant hills fade into the gray horizon. The ground shows patches of bare earth where the grass has thinned. A shadow stretches long and thin across the infield dirt, cast by the low winter sun. The player's focused gaze locks onto the target. His left hand is raised for balance, fingers spread wide. The white stitching of the glove contrasts with the dark leather. One cloud hangs low and heavy in the sky.
