Winter Moon Halo Above Desert Escarpment in beneath a wind-cut desert escarpment near Al Bayda

Winter Moon Halo Above Desert Escarpment

by Anita Witt

A pale ring of ice crystals encircles the bright moon high above a jagged desert escarpment near Al Bayda. The pre-dawn sky holds a deep indigo hue, against the cool white glow of the lunar halo. Fine droplets from a light drizzle coat the rough, wind-sculpted rock face in the foreground, catching the moonlight as tiny, scattered diamonds. The stone surface appears dark and matte, absorbing the ambient light while the moisture creates a glistening sheen along the ledges. Shadows stretch long and soft across the uneven terrain, showing the steep drop of the cliff. The moon hangs isolated in the vast expanse, its halo sharp and distinct against the clear, cold air. Droplets rest on the edge of a protruding rock shelf, reflecting the pale light like miniature mirrors.
