Silvery winter light from a full moon washes over wind-sculpted sand dunes beneath a steep desert escarpment in Peru. The night sky remains perfectly clear, allowing the lunar glow to cast long, sharp shadows that stretch across the rippled dune surfaces. Cool tones dominate the landscape, showing the cold distance of the celestial body above. Reflections from a shallow pool or wet sand create a mirrored composition at the base of the dunes, doubling the texture of the wind-cut ridges. Fine grains of sand catch the light on the crests, while deep shadows pool in the troughs. The edge of the escarpment cuts a dark line against the starless void, at the base of the scene in the specific geography of the Peruvian coast.
