Windmill Interior Grinding Stones Flour Dust in inside a glass-roofed arcade in Mbuji-Mayi

Windmill Interior Grinding Stones Flour Dust

by Callie Buckley

Neon tubes cast a cool blue and violet glow across the rough stone surfaces of a grinding mechanism inside a glass-roofed arcade. Fine flour dust hangs suspended in the predawn darkness, catching the artificial light to create a hazy, shimmering cloud around the massive millstones. The stones themselves show deep, worn grooves and a matte grey texture, against the smooth, reflective glass panels of the arcade ceiling above. Dust coats the metal supports and settles on the floor in thin, powdery layers. A soft reflection of the neon light shimmers on the damp, stone floor near the base of the machinery, highlighting the gritty texture of the dry season environment.
