Outside the door, a light drizzle blurs the glass, while late spring greenery presses against the window frames. The room holds the quiet tension of civic duty. Behind the table, a concrete landing defies gravity; a staircase ascends into the ceiling while another identical flight descends into the same floor space, creating a loop of impossible geometry. Dust motes hang suspended in the sidelight, catching the sheen of wet rain on the floor tiles. A red seal on the ballot paper glows against the white paper, its edge sharp against the gray concrete of the impossible stairwell.
