Ballot Case in Council Chamber Before Sunset

Amber light from the lobby spills across a heavy metal ballot transport case resting on the polished stone floor of a council chamber near Leon. The case sits slightly off-center, its steel surface catching the molten side light that cuts through the heavy overcast sky filtering from high windows. Faint scuff marks and a single set of muddy footprints trail across the floorboards, evidence of recent movement during the rainy season. Wooden beams run parallel to the case, creating leading lines that draw toward the empty, heavy oak doors at the far end. The institutional gravity of the room settles into the dust motes floating in the golden beams, while the wet exterior visible through the glass suggests the storm outside. A brass latch on the case reflects the warm glow against the cool gray of the floor.
