Red dust coats the soles of work boots as a line of voters stretches across a public square in Alice Springs at first light. Deep shadows pool around their feet while a sharp rim of dawn light outlines their silhouettes against the clearing sky. The group stands in layers of depth, receding into the distance where the red earth meets the pale horizon. Clear air holds the stillness of the turn of seasons, with dry grass and sparse shrubs visible at the square's edge. Faces remain obscured in the gloom, but the posture of waiting bodies conveys a quiet, collective purpose. at the edge is the rough texture of leather boots pressing against the dusty pavement, at the base of the scene in the arid landscape.
