Venetian Mask Maker Gilding Plague Doctor in Late Autumn Light

Late afternoon sun falls through sheer curtains, casting soft, shifting patterns of gold and shadow across a cluttered workshop in Venice. A weathered artisan sits at a wooden workbench, their hands steady as they apply delicate sheets of gold leaf to the beak of a plague doctor mask. The mask, made of stiff, aged leather, rests on a padded stand, its dark surface against the bright, metallic sheen being applied. Tools and scraps of parchment scatter the table, hinting at months of labor. Behind the figure, deep shadows pool along the rough stone walls, showing the quiet solitude of the space.
