Wall Candlestick in Venice

Bright late morning light floods a narrow Venetian alleyway, illuminating a woman in a faded floral apron balancing a woven basket of bright yellow bananas on her hip. She pauses beside a weathered stone doorway, reaching up with one hand to adjust a heavy brass candlestick mounted on the wall, its patina catching the sun. Beside her, a small wooden step stool leans against the damp, plastered wall, its paint chipped to reveal grey wood. A cluster of pigeons scuttles across the wet cobblestones, their iridescent necks flashing in the glare.
