Vendors Trade Goods on Wooden Boats in San Francisco Canal

Soft overcast light washes over a narrow canal lane at Fisherman's Wharf, where two weathered wooden boats float side by side. A vendor in a faded blue shirt leans from the starboard gunwale, handing a burlap sack to a buyer aboard the opposing vessel. The hulls display patches of peeling green paint and rusted metal fittings. Dry season air leaves the water calm and glassy, reflecting the low-hanging gray clouds above. Stacks of crates and coiled ropes clutter the decks. The wooden planks of the dock edge run diagonally across the foreground, leading toward the exchange. One rusted bolt on the stern rail catches the diffuse daylight.
