Vendor Cart in Lima

Mist rests on the narrow, steep alley of Barrio Alto in Lima, softening the harsh geometry of the colonial stucco walls. A street vendor’s cart, parked precariously on the cobblestone incline, displays a row of chipped ceramic tiles used for local repair work, their edges worn smooth by decades of handling. Beside them, a matte glaze on a ceramic cup catches the diffuse, grey light, its surface dull against the wet sheen of the pavement. A Schipperke, small and dark against the pale fog, stands alert near the vendor’s boots, watching the empty street.
