Twilight Tree Rings Over Barbados Forest Canopy

by Clark Bentley

Reflected light from the water below casts a soft glow across the forest canopy during twilight. Dry season leaves have thinned, revealing the skeletal structure of the trees against the darkening sky. Wind whips through the branches, blurring the edges of the foliage. Distinct concentric tree rings overlay the aerial view, creating a cartographic pattern in earth tones of ochre and deep brown. These rings rest against the muted greens of the canopy and the pale sand of dune fields and dry wadis stretching out in the background. The forest mass occupies the lower right third of the view, balancing the open sky above. A faint shadow from a low branch falls across the center of the ring pattern.
