Tibetan Monks Create Mandala Under Giant Koi in Daegu
Four monks in deep maroon robes kneel in a tight circle, their hands moving sand across a flat, dusty surface in the dry heat of early evening. A shimmering heat haze distorts the air above the intricate geometric patterns forming on the ground. Deep shadows cloak their bodies, while a sharp rim light cuts along their shoulders and the edges of their hats, separating them from the dark background. Dominating the space directly overhead is a massive, translucent koi fish, suspended in the air like a living parade balloon. The fish glows with faint internal light, its scales reflecting the ambient warmth. The monks continue their rhythmic work beneath this impossible floating creature, their movements precise and quiet. The contrast between the rough, dry earth and the smooth, impossible scales of the fish creates a striking visual boundary.
