Throat Singers in Misty Pokhara Jazz Club in at a jazz club in Pokhara

Throat Singers in Misty Pokhara Jazz Club

by Noel Hyde

Thick, pale mist fills the open-air stage of a jazz club in Pokhara, softening the edges of the early autumn morning. Two performers stand side by side, their dark clothing contrasting against the white fog that drifts across the wooden floorboards. Bright daylight falls through the haze, illuminating the texture of their skin and the moisture in the air. Behind them, the blurred outlines of the stage structure and distant mountain slopes fade into the gray atmosphere. The singers hold their heads slightly back, mouths open in the act of resonance, their expressions focused and vulnerable. One beam of light catches the dust motes swirling around their raised hands before falling onto the wet wood at their feet.
