Textile Loom Hall and Slag Cars at Blue Hour in at a loading dock near Johannesburg

Textile Loom Hall and Slag Cars at Blue Hour

by Danny Schneider

Deep indigo twilight saturates the loading dock near Johannesburg as raindrops streak the air. Rows of textile looms line the left side of a massive hall, their metal frames catching the warm glow of overhead string lights. Opposite them, rusted slag cars sit in perfect alignment, their heavy wheels and curved sides reflecting the wet pavement. The drizzle creates a shimmering sheen on the concrete floor, mirroring the amber bulbs above. Heavy steel beams frame the background, showing the scale of the industrial space. The symmetrical arrangement of machinery and transport vehicles creates clear monumental utilitarian force. One puddle at the foreground edge catches a distorted reflection of the nearest loom's glowing gear.
