Sydney Sea Wall Gate Dawn Waves in under a cable-stayed bridge span in Sydney

Sydney Sea Wall Gate Dawn Waves

by August Holcomb

Cool gray concrete edges glow under the pale dawn light of an early winter morning. A heavy steel splash gate hangs partially open within the harbor infrastructure, its rusted metal surfaces catching the first faint rays. Waves crash against the structure, sending a fine mist of spray that hangs suspended in the still air above the wet pavement. The low angle view emphasizes the sheer scale of the gate against the massive cable-stayed bridge span looming overhead. Steel cables stretch into the darkening sky, their taut lines cutting through the soft white fog. Water droplets rest on the rough texture of the concrete base, reflecting the dim blue of the pre-sunrise sky. one drop of seawater slides down the vertical face of the gate, tracing a dark path through the accumulated grime.
