Late summer heat collides with impossible frost in this portrait of a swordsmith working inside Lokrum, Dubrovnik. Thick layers of ice coat the stone walls and the heavy wooden workbench, while the air remains still under the flat glare of noon. The smith holds a steel blade at arm's length, his gaze fixed on the razor-thin edge. Soft north-window light illuminates his weathered face and the intricate patterns etched into the metal. Frost crystals cling to his eyebrows and the leather straps of his apron, creating a sharp visual contrast against the warm tones of his skin and the dark steel. The ice glistens on the rough-hewn table surface, reflecting the bright daylight without melting. One shard of frozen water rests on the tip of the blade.
