Surreal Salamander on Wet Log Near Mecca

Cool blue twilight washes the edge of a reed bed near Mecca, where a fire salamander clings to a slick, dark log. The amphibian's black skin is speckled with bright yellow spots that glow against the damp wood grain. Above, the sky is impossible, crowded with giant, suspended fruit and lanterns that dwarf the reeds below. These massive objects hang motionless in the deepening blue air, their surfaces reflecting the faint glow of distant city lights beginning to puncture the horizon. The foreground reeds stand sharp and green, while the massive celestial fruit creates a heavy, surreal canopy. one drop of water rolls from the log's edge, catching the light of a nearby giant lantern.
