Sun Halo Over Snow Church Kiruna Storm in over a horizon of stacked thunderheads near Kiruna

Sun Halo Over Snow Church Kiruna Storm

by Jorge Gilmore

Pale sunlight fractures into a perfect 22-degree ring hovering above a dark, snow-capped church steeple. The stark white spire rises from a landscape of flat, frozen ground, contrasting sharply with the heavy, stacked thunderheads piling on the horizon. Reflected light from nearby water casts a cool, silvery sheen across the foreground snow, softening the texture of the drifts. Low-hanging clouds press close to the roofline, showing immense vertical space and isolation. The ring glows with a faint inner red edge, while the outer blue fades into the grey sky. A thin wire fence runs along the bottom edge, at the base of the composition in the rugged arctic summer terrain.
