Steaming Kettle Under Northern Lights Near Kobe
by Jake Nolan
Green ribbons of aurora borealis stretch across a pitch-black sky above a small campfire in late summer near Kobe. A metal kettle sits directly on the glowing embers, its spout releasing a thick plume of white steam that drifts upward into the cold air. The firelight reflects off the kettle's polished surface, creating warm orange highlights against the dark surroundings. Tiny stars punctuate the vast darkness, their faint light against the vibrant green waves overhead. The ground beneath the fire is scattered with small rocks and dry grass, illuminated by the flickering flames. The steam rises steadily, blending into the night air without disturbing the stillness of the clear sky. One ember glows bright orange at the center of the fire, casting a soft, dancing shadow against the kettle's side.
