Silver rain coats the asphalt in the narrow passage behind Basra restaurants as the last blue light of evening fades. Thick white steam pours from a rusted metal exhaust vent, swirling into the damp air beside a bus shelter fogged with condensation. The steam rises in heavy columns against the darkening sky, catching the faint ambient glow. Wet pavement reflects the muted tones of the alley walls and the silver drizzle falling in fine threads. A silhouette of a metal grate rests on the ground near the vent, its edges sharp against the slick surface. The steam obscures the background, leaving only the immediate textures of wet brick and dripping water visible.
