Steam Rising from Chicago Alley Vent

Humid air hangs heavy in a narrow Chicago alleyway during early autumn. Dark brick walls line the space, their surfaces slick with recent rain. A metal kitchen exhaust vent protrudes from the shadowed rear of a restaurant, releasing thick white steam that curls upward against the dimming sky. Low-angle perspective emphasizes the height of the vent and the towering buildings on either side. Rim light catches the edges of the steam and the wet pavement, creating bright highlights against the deep shadows. Puddles on the ground reflect the faint glow of distant streetlights. A rusted fire escape ladder runs vertically along the left wall, its metal texture rough and cold. The steam dissolves slowly into the cool evening air, blending with the gray tones of the overcast sky.
