Steam and Farewells on Quebec Causeway

Bright afternoon light floods the wide concrete expanse of a Quebec causeway, where a vintage steam train belches thick white vapor into the air. Heat haze shimmers above the tracks, distorting the distant horizon where the water meets the sky. A group of travelers stands near the open doors of the locomotive, their figures locked in tight embraces. The steam swirls around their coats, softening the sharp edges of their silhouettes against the pale sky. The platform stretches endlessly to the left and right, lined with rusted rails and gravel. A metal railing runs along the edge, separating the platform from the wind-swept water below. at the edge is one drop of condensation sliding down a cold steel handrail.
