Split Pomegranate in Evening Light

Honeyed evening light spills across a solitary pomegranate tree near Chelyabinsk, illuminating the deep crimson rind of a fruit split open to reveal ruby seeds. Low-hanging clouds press against the sky, diffusing the last rays of sun into a soft, ethereal glow that wraps the branches. The rough, textured bark of the tree contrasts with the smooth, wet sheen of the exposed arils. A few late-summer leaves rest on the limbs, their edges turning slightly yellow. The composition strips away distractions, leaving the fruit and sky as the only elements. A sharp shadow falls across the lower branch, at the base of the vibrant red against the darkening blue of the horizon.
