Solomon Islands Fish Wrapped in Banana Leaf

Bright green banana leaves wrap tightly around a mound of cooked fish, resting on a rough, sun-bleached wooden table. The leaves show deep veins and slight scorch marks from steaming, their edges folded over to seal the contents. Pale flakes of white fish peek through small gaps in the wrapping, against the dark, charred rim of the leaf. The wood grain runs diagonally across the frame, worn smooth by years of use and salt air. Soft, diffused light from an overcast sky eliminates harsh shadows, revealing the texture of the fibrous leaf and the flaky meat inside. A small pool of clear oil gathers at the base of the wrap where it touches the table. The scene sits quietly under the flat glare of noon, suggesting a meal ready to be shared.
