Late summer predawn darkness fills the couture atelier in Islamabad, broken only by the warm, yellow glow of hanging string lights. A dress form stands centered, draped in wet silk shirting that clings to its contours. Rain has left the fabric glistening, revealing every weave and thread in high definition. Tiny dust particles hang suspended in the narrow beams of light, drifting slowly through the air. The silk's surface reflects the soft illumination, showing a deep, liquid sheen against the shadowed background. Water droplets rest on the hem, catching the light like scattered diamonds. The texture of the damp cloth is sharp and tactile, against the soft, hazy shafts of illumination surrounding it.
