Indigo twilight washes the humid Kinshasa air as a dancer spins in a tight circle. From behind, the figure becomes a stark silhouette against the fading sky. Layers of feathered regalia fan out in a blurred arc, showing the motion of a traditional powwow performance. Raindrops hang suspended in the backlit air, catching the last light from a brief sun shower. The wet ground reflects the dark shapes of distant trees and the faint glow of street lamps. Feathers blur into a soft halo around the spinning form. One raindrop slides down the edge of a beaded fringe.
